Rockstar has confirmed some of Red Dead Redemption’s Social Club features. If you haven’t signed up to the Social Club yet, you’ll be able to do so in the game and it’ll automatically link to you Xbox Live or PlayStation Network account. Members can unlock seven exclusive cheats through the Social Club by doing Social Club Challenges. The first challenge is “Pike’s Basin Challenge”, where players have to beat the “Justice in Pike’s Basin” mission and complete the Pike’s Basin gang hideout by helping rancher Errol Hewitt defeat the gang. Completing the unlocked challenge will post your best time and medals to the Social Club Challenges leaderboard and unlock the “Guns Blazing” cheat. This cheat will allow you to shoot flaming bullets that set enemies on fire.
Rockstar Challenges will start in late May with “The Strike It Rich! Rockstar Challenge”, where gamers have to grab as much money in the world as possible to reach a grand bank total and unlock a mystery prize. The community has to work together on achieving that total and the Social Club will keep users up to date with the community’s progress.
The Social Club will also have a dynamic community edition of the in-game newspaper called “The Blackwater Ledger”. It will post information such as who’s earned the highest bounties, what the most popular products are in-game, how many people have cheated in poker, amongst other info.
The service will also keep track of leaderboards, your stats, achievements and a 100% checklist (with a guide to what’s unlocked and what’s left with tips and a map legend). Red Dead Redemption Social Club Multiplayer Events begin Friday, May 21 on the PlayStation Network from 4-7PM EST, and Saturday, May 22 on Xbox LIVE from 1-4PM EST, giving you the chance to play with or against Rockstar employees. Social Club members will be able to view and take part in a live chat on the events page and be able to watch a live stream.
Red Dead Redemption is out May 18th in the US and May 21st in the UK on the PS3 and 360.
