Sony has announced that PlayStation 3 sales have reached 13 million units in the company’s last financial year that ended 31st March 2010. That’s an increase of 3m units year-on year. However, PSP sales actually went down from 14.1m to 9.9m, with PS2 sales dropping from 7.9m to 7.3m. “PS2 is entering its 11th year this year, and it’s amazing it is still contributing,” said Sony CFO Bill Glaser. “PSP was a little bit of a disappointment to us last year.”
Sales of PS3 games rose to 115.3m units, up from 103.7m from the previous year. PSP titles were down to 44.4m units in comparison to the 50.3m sales the year before. PS2 games dropped to 35.7m units from 83.5m. The Network Product and Services division which includes the PlayStation business recorded a loss of £597m. This loss was ¥4.4 billion better than last year, helped mainly by Sony Walkmans. Sony generated an in-the-green income of £228.1m for the financial year thanks to LCD TVs. Last year, the company lost money.
