Sony has shipped 5.5 million units of Gran Turismo 5 worldwide since the game has launched. Don’t forget though that shipped means delivered to retailers, not the actual amount sold. Regardless, that’s still a good figure. The game sold 486,389 copies in Japan as of 5th December, so the majority of sales took place outside of Japan. Disappointingly though, it was only the eighth best selling game in the US for the month of November with 530K sold.

Despite this mixed-bag of sales, GT5 has managed to propel the series past the 60 million units shipped barrier. The original Gran Turismo was released way back in December 1997 on the PlayStation, when the world was a much simpler place and people blindly took in what their governments told them.
