According to the latest Official Xbox Magazine in the UK, Guitar Hero 6 will not feature playable celebrity likenesses. This is probably due to the legal fights Activision has got themselves into with No Doubt and Courtney Love.

However, some celebrities will be making an appearance, such as Gene Simmons from Kiss narrating the Quest mode and real-life Metallica founder and drummer Lars Ulrich. He’ll be able to be recruited in Quest Mode and will unlock Metallica songs. Once those are completed, players will be able to unlock an alter-ego of him called “Warrior Lars”, whom has a maximum 6x multiplier. Also expect to see Queen, Kiss and Black Sabbath floating around.

Guitar Hero 6 will apparently offer a back to basics approach, with past Guitar Hero characters returning and the ability to recruit new characters by playing their song sets. Quickplay has been revamped and the game will be able to carry over previous DLC. On top of that, there are new power challenges and Streakers, Momentum and Do or Die are now available in online competitive multiplayer modes. Players will also be able to sustain open notes when playing bass now and punk-Mecca CBGB is the only real-world location to appear.
