Ubisoft has officially confirmed Driver: San Francisco, and stated that the game will be released on the 360, PS3, Wii and PC by the end of the year. The company showed off some gameplay from it at their press conference at E3 yesterday. The Wii version is being developed separately and will be shown off on its own soon.
Driver: San Francisco is in development over at Ubisoft Reflections. The game once again follows series protagonist John Tanner as he chases after Driver 2 villain Jericho. Expect realistic city streets and licensed vehicles. Ubisoft claims it has handling like the original Driver.
There is something a bit weird with this one though. Tanner is in a coma throughout the game and so the entire experience is in his mind. This gives him an interesting “Shift” ability, where Tanner can zoom out of his car and control another. It’s not an infinite power and you have to let it recharge, but if you level it up throughout the game you can eventually take over any car in the new 208 miles-squared gameworld.
