Hideo Kojima has announced that Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater will be released on the Nintendo 3DS in 2011. His announcement was made during Konami’s Tokyo Game Show conference. Strangely, there won’t be any mad elongated names for the game. It will just simply be known as “Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater”.

Microsoft has confirmed that five of the top six sellers on the Xbox Live Arcade are Japanese. The games are: Marvel vs. Capcom 2, Street Fighter 2, Super Street Fighter 2 HD Turbo Remix, Bomberman Live and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Disappointingly, they all seem to be either ports or remakes.

Microsoft has lifted the lid on a raft of new Japanese XBLA titles. There was five announced, to be exact. Here they are: Haunt – A spooky adventure game from Parappa the Rappa’s Masaya Matsuura. Sony has announced PS3 firmware 3.50, and confirmed that it will be released on September 21st. The update adds 3D Blu-ray movie support to the console, to complement the pre-existing 3D game support. Sony unveiled the date at their Tokyo Game Show press conference, but it’s fair to presume the firmware will be released worldwide simultaneously, like all those before it. Microsoft Game Studios VP Phil Spencer has announced that Halo: Reach has made $200 million on its first day at retail. The announcement was made at the company’s TGS briefing. If our maths is correct and we assume all the copies of the game were sold at full price, Reach sold around 3.3 million units on day one.

EA has finally confirmed what Suda51 and Shinji Mikami have been working on for them at the Tokyo Game Show. The game is called “Shadows of the Damned”, and apparently, it’s a “psychological action thriller”. The protagonist is a dude called Garcia Hotspur, whose true love is abducted by demons and dragged to the underworld. Team Ninja has announced a 3DS Dead or Alive game at the Tokyo Game Show today. The game will be called “Dead or Alive: Dimensions” and it will be a good old-fashioned beat-em-up. Team Ninja believes that the game will recapture the hardcore fighting game audience and veteran fans of the franchise with this game. A release date for Dimensions hasn’t been confirmed yet.

Capcom has announced another Dead Rising 2-based Xbox 360-exclusive downloadable game at the Tokyo Game Show. It’s entitled Dead Rising 2: Case West. Unlike the previous downloadable title, Case West will be an epilogue that takes place directly after the events of Dead Rising 2. Tecmo Koei has announced Ninja Gaiden 3 at a behind closed doors showing at the Tokyo Game Show. Apparently, the game will show a more human side the series’ protagonist; Ryo. Current rumours suggest we’re going to be taking Ryo to hell and back. Regardless, no release dates or platforms have been announced yet.

Capcom has officially unveiled the heavily-rumoured Ninja Theory-developed Devil May Cry game at the Tokyo Game Show. The game is called “DmC”, and will be released on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. EA Japan has announced that Suda51 and Mikami’s new game is going to be unveiled at the EA Tokyo Showcase 2010. That event is held on September 15th, one day before the Tokyo Game Show begins. EA claims that more games will get announced at the event, so we’ll keep you posted.

Square Enix has announced Dissidia Duodecim Final Fantasy for the PSP and confirmed that it’s due to be released next year. Lightning from FFXIII and Kain from FFIV will be playable characters. Expect to hear more about the game at the Tokyo Game Show next week.

The organisers of the Tokyo Game Show have confirmed that Microsoft will be delivering the first of this year’s keynote addresses. Home & Entertainment Division head honcho Takashi Sensui and Microsoft Game Studios’ corporate vice president Phil Spencer will be on stage to talk about the “Xbox 360’s Vision and 2010’s Strategy”.
