The sale of Rock Band developer Harmonix by Viacom has gone a bit dodgy thanks to Harmonix filing a lawsuit against their parent company. They allege that Viacom “diverted opportunities” from Harmonix for its own benefit so it wouldn’t have to pay out millions in performance-related bonuses. After just four years after Viacom brought Harmonix for $175m, the company wants to sell the music game studio. Viacom is the parent company that owns MTV and Paramount amongst quite a few others. Harmonix has decided that enough is enough, stating that they will only produce DLC for Rock Band 3. New tracks won’t be available on older games in the series for the first time in the franchise. It will be one of the first albums that you can grab on the Rock Band Music Store. Harmonix has confirmed that more than 2000 tracks will be available for Rock Band by next week when Jimi Hendrix’s “Are You Experienced?” album is released on 12th October. Rock Band 3 will follow up on 29th October, when it’s released in European stores. Harmonix has confirmed that the PS3 Rock Band Keyboard bundle will not be released in the US. The bundle will also not be available in Canada and Mexico. The $130 bundle is still up for pre-order on the Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii in the affected territories. Harmonix has confirmed that gamers will be able to export their Rock Band 2 tracks to Rock Band 3. The exporting system will work across all three console versions of the game (including the Wii).
