New Oddworld developer Just Add Water will be releasing a HD version of Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath for the PS3 next Easter (April 2011). It will be a PlayStation Network title and marks the franchise’s first title on a PlayStation console since Oddworld: Abe’s Exoddus back in 1998. Stranger’s Wrath was released back in 2005 for the original Xbox. The remake will take the game to 720p and will feature normal mapping, self-shadowing, re-mastered dialogue, Move support and some other new secret bits.

“Since word got out that we’ve been working with Oddworld Inhabitants there have been many rumours circulating about what we’re working on,” said JAW boss Stewart Gilray. “Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath is the first project in what we believe will be a long and fruitful relationship. Having the chance to update this great title and release it on PS3 is just a brilliant opportunity, not least for us, but for the fans too.”

Namco Bandai has announced that Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 will be released on the 360 and PS3 on October 15th. There will be both standard and collector’s editions available at launch. The CE includes an individually numbered Laser Cell artwork of “Hokage Naruto”, drawn by Naruto creator Masashi Kishimoto. Apparently he’s doing it to mark the 10th anniversary of the series’ first appearance in Shonen Jump magazine. The CE also has a soundtrack CD, a DLC card which gives instant access to Minato and a different retail box.

A demo of the game will be released on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Marketplace on August 25th. Namco also confirmed that Lars Alexandersson from Tekken 6 will make a playable appearance. He will be in his full Tekken 6 regalia, but this time he’s going to be designed by Kishimoto.

Last week, we posted about the next downloadable content pack for Borderlands. Details of it were leaked thanks to some hints in the game’s 1.31 PC patch. Now, 2K Games has come out and made the official announcement for the DLC. It’s entitled “Claptrap’s New Robot Revolution” and will be released this September on the Xbox Live Marketplace, PlayStation Network and whatever those crazy PC kids use. It will cost 800 Allards on the Xbox Live Marketplace and £6.29 everywhere else.

As expected, the claptrap population has got fed up of being slaves and things have got real interesting. Let by the Ninja Assassin Claptrap, the robots have broken free and have taken to rolling around and re-animating dead people with robot parts to fight for them. You’re tasked with sorting the mess out the only way you know how: with lots of guns.

“A year ago Borderlands was an untested brand that through hard work and a lot of passion, turned out to be one of the best-selling, claptastic and skagtacular games we have ever created,” said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. “A year later, we are releasing our fourth DLC instalment, Claptrap’s New Robot Revolution, which illustrates our enthusiasm for creating highly entertaining content that enhances a franchise. In addition to serving as the perfect bookend to the original game, what gamer doesn’t love a kung-fu-wielding Ninja Assassin Claptrap with nunchuck skills?”

Expect 20 new missions, new enemies, some new boss battles, waves of homicidal claptraps, Hyperion soldiers and claptrap-ified creatures. Gamers will be able to earn 10 additional skill points for a grand total of 71 available skill tree points, as well as three more backpack slots.

THQ has announced that they will be publishing Costume Quest, the next title from Tim Schafer and his development studio Double Fine. The game is a third-person adventure RPG, set during a Halloween night. You play as a trick-or-treater and have to collect sweets, points, cards, battle stamps and mission assignments as you potter about the neighbourhood.

Costume Quest will be released this autumn as a downloadable title on the Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network, with a sequel coming in early 2011. “We wanted to make a big impression with these, our first downloadable games ever,” Schafer said. “So we are coming out swinging with two great adventures from two of the most creative minds in the company.”

2K Games has finally released a demo for Mafia II on the PlayStation Store, Xbox Live Marketplace, Steam and other PC download places. The demo includes only one level, entitled “Buzzsaw” and seems to have a time limit of 10 minutes outside the mission. We’ve just played the 360 version and while the controls are a bit awkward, it seems to be good. The presentation is quite nice and the cutscenes seemed to be quite solid. The full game will be released on August 24th in North America and August 27th everywhere else.

Square Enix has confirmed that Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light will be released on the Xbox Live Arcade without its online modes (online co-op, leaderboards and voice chat). They will be patched in at the same time as the PC and PSN versions are released on 28th September. The game will be released on 18th August in a one-month timed exclusive deal.

Apparently, five downloadable content packs will be released for the game between October and December on all platforms. The first three DLC packs will add “new puzzle, exploration and combat experiences and new areas to explore”. The last two will add some new playable “well-known videogame characters”.

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light will set you back 1200 Allards on the Xbox Live Arcade and $14.99 on the PlayStation Network and Steam.
