Codemasters has confirmed that the European free-to-play re-launch of The Lord of the Rings has been delayed. Apparently, the reason for its delay is so that Codemasters can prepare for what they assume will be a “massive increase” in players. The delay means that Book 2: Ride of the Grey Company and the Free to Play Store will now be released “later than expected”.

“We are really pleased with the performance of the game and excited about the response to Free to Play from our players,” said Rowland. “Given the complexities and challenges faced in the preparation and implementation of the new store to work within our infrastructure, we feel more time is needed to deliver the high level of service our players have quite rightly come to expect.

“As a result, we have decided to delay launch to ensure that we can support the massive increase in players that we are anticipating and deliver them a Free to Play experience like none other.”

Gary Oldman and Ed Harris have been announced as voice actors for Call of Duty: Black Ops. Gary Oldman will be playing the same role he took on in Call of Duty: World at War, Viktor Reznov. Ed Harris will be playing CIA operative Jason Hudson, who’s apparently one of the game’s main characters. The actors are joined by Batman Begins and Batman: Dark Knight writer David S. Goyer, who will be providing script consultation and story development support. Black Ops will be released on 9th November for the PC, PS3, 360, Wii and DS.

“Oldman, Harris and Goyer are considered some of Hollywood’s finest talents and they perfectly complement Call of Duty: Black Ops’ ambitious and immersive single player experience,” said Treyarch studio boss Mark Lamia. “Their contributions have helped us to push the boundaries of our story telling and character development far beyond anything we have ever attempted before in the franchise.”

Some kind folk have uploaded a 9 minute long gameplay video of Portal 2’s co-op mode from PAX. It shows off some interesting portal mechanics and the ability to tag your environment to tell your co-op partner where you would like a portal. Have a watch:

Few stories in videogaming last as long as 13 years, but there has been a crucial saga that has made us gamers stand to attention and weep. The Duke Nukem Forever saga has been rumbling along since 1997, and the internet thought it was finally dead and buried in May 2009 when 3D Realms terminated the DNF development team.

Well, I’m pleased to say that Duke Nukem Forever is now back. Take-Two showed off the game today at PAX over in a little place called North America. Gearbox Software (Brothers in Arms, Borderlands, Half-Life: Opposing Force and Half-Life: Blue Shift) will be taking up development duties on the game and they will be finishing up what 3D Realms started all those years ago. It will be running on the Borderlands engine and 2K Games will be publishing it.

Randy Pitchford, CEO of Gearbox Software said: “Clearly the game hadn’t been finished at 3D Realms but a lot of content had been created. The approach and investment and process at 3d Realms didn’t quite make it and it cracked at the end. With Gearbox Software we brought all those pieces together. It’s the game it was meant to be.”

“Aliens come and say they’re going to be our friends and Duke knows this isn’t going to work out,” Pitchford says. “Duke once again is in the pivotal spot and it’s up to him to save the world.” He went on to say: “We’re in the polishing phase now. This is a game where we cannot make a promise we cannot fulfil. We need to get past the shock and awe and then we can go to all the retailers and first parties and work out a launch plan.”

Duke Nukem Forever is now expected to ship in 2011 (we’ll believe it when we see it). We’ll be updating this post with pictures and video whenever we get it. We’ll probably turn the front page into a shrine to Duke with a load of posts about the news if anything else exciting breaks.

Telltale Games has announced Poker Night at the Inventory. It’s essentially a regular poker game but it features Penny Arcade’s Tycho, Team Fortress 2’s Heavy, Homestar Runner’s Strong Bad and Sam & Max’s rabbit thingy Max. It’s looking pretty entertaining, and apparently has a lot of dialogue that you’ll hear throughout the game. Poker Night at the Inventory is currently down for a “fall 2010” release.

CD Projekt has started the hype machine for The Witcher 2 by claiming that the game has 16 endings. The first game only had three endings. According to CD Projekt, The Witcher 2 has three different game openings. Furthermore, they have said that the game has 256 cutscenes that total 150 minutes, 30 armour types, an extra magic sign and four load screens. The game is running on a new engine called TSOOD. The engine is compatible with the PS3, 360 and PC. The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings will be released on the PC in 2011. PS3 and 360 versions haven’t been officially dated yet.

Square Enix has released three multiplayer add-ons for Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days. The most expensive of which is the Doggie Bag Pack, which will set you back 560 Allards on 360 or $5.99 on the PC and PS3. It includes two new maps (as well as a pre-order map), five new weapons and some new achievements/trophies. Next up is the Alliance Weapons Pack. That costs 240 Allards/$2.99 and includes seven of the pre-order weapons (expect handguns, shotguns and assault rifles). Finally, there is the Multiplayer Mask Pack. That costs 160 Allards/$1.99 and includes some new masks (surprisingly).
