The strangely sizeable Xbox 360 dashboard update we all got yesterday that re-enabled the “boot to disc” option also introduced some new anti-piracy measures. Essentially, the update blocks certain backups/pirate copies from booting at all on certain drives. Specifically, the games protected by this include Halo Reach, Call of Duty Black Ops and Modern Warfare 2. What’s more, when users try to load these backups on the new dash it   Read More ...

Major Nelson has confirmed that the Xbox 360 dashboard will be getting an update today (Wednesday 19th January). The update is obviously mandatory, and re-enables the “Boot to Disc” option in the dashboard’s settings. The last update in-avertedly nullified the feature that allowed 360 consoles to boot to the game in their tray when they were turned on.   Furthermore, there will be an update for Xbox.com on Thursday 20th   Read More ...

Ilomilo is a weird game. It comes across as this odd cutesy thing with bizarre-looking characters an odd gameworld and nothing more. The presentation is muddled up in its own rubbish and it doesn’t offer the best of first impressions. Despite this, what lurks beneath the ridiculous aesthetics and the “plot” (one dude wants to meet another for some afternoon tea) is a cheeky little puzzler.

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer announced that the Xbox 360 has sold over 50 million units worldwide. The Microsoft head honcho was speaking at the company’s keynote address at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. In other news, I am depressed to say that Microsoft announced they had sold over 8 million Kinects worldwide since it launched. We are not going to stop the motion invasion and conventional gaming websites   Read More ...

Hi guys, we’re a bit tired to report the individual pieces of news from Microsoft’s 2011 CES Keynote that’s just about to start so we’ve decided to just embed the livestream here. We hope the keynote is entertaining and Microsoft drops some Vegas-Tons but we’re not overly optimistic. Regardless, we’ll report any important announcements tomorrow. Admittedly, we did save you from the boredom of the Sony keynote earlier not because   Read More ...

Microsoft announced Forza Motorsport 4 at the Spike VGAs last night. There was a live action teaser with lots of cool cars driving really fast, which is what we like. Interestingly, there seems to be more Top Gear branding about too. Forza 4 will be released in Fall 2011 on the Xbox 360.

Turn 10 has finally announced a Forza 3 DLC pack that we might actually buy. It’s called the Community Choice Classics Car Pack and it includes 10 iconic cars decided by a vote from Forza fans and Jalopnik readers (if there are any). The list of cars includes some cult classics from movies such as Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (Ferrari 250 California) and Back to the Future (DeLorean DMC-12). The   Read More ...

Microsoft has stopped plans to wipe away Halo Wars’ online stats after gamers campaigned against their removal. “After seeing the reaction and passion from Halo Wars fans as well as Halo FPS fans who were concerned about the future of other Halo titles, we determined that the previously stated plan of action was not in line with our intended plan of loyal support for Halo’ games,’ said Microsoft in a   Read More ...

Microsoft has confirmed that just about half of their 25 million Xbox Live members are Gold subscribers. That figure is from their internal statistics, revealed by Dennis Durkin (Microsoft head of Interactive Entertainment Business) at the Credit Suisse Annual Technology Conference last night. “Of our 25 million members, about half of them are subscribers to the business and pay us about $60 a year for that,” Durkin said. “So it’s   Read More ...
