Gamers looking forward to reliving the past and for you Metal Gear Solid fans, Konami has given the official release date for the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection.

It will release on November 8th for those of us in North America and is delayed a bit for a release on February 3rd, 2012 for Europe and PAL territories. The compilation comprises five seminal games including METAL GEAR SOLID 2: SONS OF LIBERTY, METAL GEAR SOLID 3: SNAKE EATER, and METAL GEAR SOLID: PEACE WALKER in full HD, and also contains the two games that started it all: METAL GEAR and METAL GEAR 2: SOLID SNAKE, which were originally released for MSX more than 20 years ago.

The Metal Gear Solid HD Collection will be available on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles.

Yeah? Yeah? YEAH? No. It all started last week with  a Twitter post from the @HudsonSoftLtd account, who posted the above offending tweet.  Hearts everywhere enlarged with great joy. But… we all had to wake from the dream. Following updates showed that the story was a big hoax. We were all pretty convinced and hopeful. IGN and Destructoid are a few of the big names who circulated the story.

For those who don’t know, Bloody Roar is (was?) a fighting game series that takes the genre and adds a fun twist.  The game incorporated anthropomorphism, where the player has the ability to transform into a half-human, half-animal creature known as a Zoanthrope (The name came from the clinical term, ‘zoanthropy’, which is similar to that of lycanthropy, but not just with the mind-set of a wolf).

Bloody Roar never reached the popularity of, say, Street Fighter… but it was a great series.

R.I.P. to the fans’ hopes and dreams. Excuse me while I sulk.

Konami has announced that Silent Hill: Downpour will be released this autumn on the PS3 and 360. It’s the eighth Silent Hill game, with Czech developer Vatra handling development duties. The game follows convict Murphy Pendleton.

He begins the game lost and alone in the woods on the outskirts of Silent Hill when his prison transport bus crashes. If that was us, we would’ve probably waited and got taken to the prison as we wouldn’t want to get involved with that Silent Hill monkey business.

“Other games have touched upon normal people who have done bad things, or innocent people stumbling on events much bigger than themselves,” Konami’s senior associate producer Tomm Hulett said. “But a prisoner is a person you would expect to have a lot of baggage for Silent Hill to exploit. We felt this was an interesting premise that fans could speculate on as they awaited the game. I wouldn’t say it was a deliberate attempt to ‘play a bad guy’ necessarily, but we did have discussions around whether or not people would/could relate to such a character.”

Konami has finally unveiled an official name for Silent Hill 8. The game will now be called “Silent Hill: Downpour”. Water will play a big role in the game apparently, and rain especially will be a big factor into that. Quite what this means for gameplay remains to be seen.

Konami has announced two new downloadable add-ons for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow that will be released early next year. Both feature new areas, monsters and new story lines. Reverie plumps players in role of Gabriel at the Castle to help Laura destroy some dodgy evil that was normally stopped by the recently killed Queen.

Resurrection continues the story directly after the end of the game. It expands on the epilogue and Gabriel’s ultimate destiny. Also expect a final showdown with a “very notorious enemy”. Reverie will be available in February while Resurrection will be released in April. They both haven’t been priced yet.

Konami has confirmed that they will be releasing some new DLC for PES 2011 on Tuesday 21st December 2011. The free DLC will be released on the PC, PS3 and 360. It will include 12 updated kits from some French clubs and the Ireland national team. Also expect 10 new licensed boot styles from adidas, Puma, Umbro and Mizuno.

Konami has confirmed that the PS3 version of X-Men Arcade will be released two months after the 360 version. The XBLA release will be hitting Europe and the US on 15th December (next Wednesday). The PSN release is currently pencilled in for a rather vague “February”. It’s not currently known how much the game will cost. X-Men Arcade is a port of the original multiplayer focused X-Men arcade title.

Expect updated HD graphics and drop in/drop out online and local co-op. Backbone Entertainment is developing the game. They are responsible for the PSN/XBLA versions of Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, 1942: Joint Strike, Commando 3.

X-Men Arcade playable characters include Cyclops, Colossus, Dazzler, Nightcrawler, Storm and Wolverine. They’re trying to destroy the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, which consists of Pyro, Blob, Wendigo, Mystique, White Queen, Juggernaught and Magneto amongst others.

Konami has finally patched the PS3 version of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow so that it might actually work properly. Save game issues created by PS3 pad interference have now been eliminated. Loading screens now have scrolling text too. A 360 patch is also in the pipeline, but we’re not exactly sure of what that will be fixing.

Konami has confirmed that they will be releasing an update for PES 2011 next week that will fix a few dodgy bits of the game. It will be released on 24th November and will address defender AI issues, balance Rainbow Flicks and sort out shooting. Players taking throw-ins will be able to get the ball passed back to them, cursor switching will be better when balls are being crossed and transfer fees in the Master League have been tinkered.

Apparently chants have been refined and PC users with technically inferior computers will be able to find matches more easily in the Legends mode. The update will be hitting the PC, PS3 and 360 versions of the game.

Metal Gear Solid: Rising protagonist Raiden will be making a cameo appearance in Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood. Raiden’s skin will be unlocked when players finish up with the Animus’ new virtual training mode. This isn’t the first time there’s been some cross-over between Ubisoft and Konami. Assassin’s Creed Altair appeared in an easter egg in Metal Gear Solid 4. Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood will be released on the PC, PS3 and 360 on 19th November. Metal Gear Solid: Rising will be released on the PC, PS3 and 360 sometime next year.

Konami has announced that they’re going to release a patch for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow on PS3. Said patch is to fix the problem that some users are having with the game corrupting their save files and telling them to start again. The game seems to be selling well, as Konami have already commissioned a sequel.

Konami has confirmed that they will release a free update for Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 on Tuesday 12th October. The update will update everything to the real world stats and add will chuck in all the teams that have qualified for the Champions League to the game’s dedicated mode. There will also be some new team kits, four new licensed boots and some new wallpapers. Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 is released today on the PC, PS3, 360 and Wii.

A 360 demo for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow has been released on the Xbox Live Marketplace. The demo clocks in at 1.6GB, and is the same one that has been on the PS3’s PlayStation Store for a week now. Lords of Shadow will be released this Friday.

Hideo Kojima has announced that Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater will be released on the Nintendo 3DS in 2011. His announcement was made during Konami’s Tokyo Game Show conference. Strangely, there won’t be any mad elongated names for the game. It will just simply be known as “Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater”.

Demos for FIFA 11 and PES 2011 have been released today. Both demos are available on the PC, PS3 and 360. The 360 demos are exclusive to Xbox Live Gold members.

The FIFA 11 demo features Chelsea, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Juventus, Bayer Leverkusen and Olympique Lyonnais. It allows you to play an exhibition match with those teams with three-minute halves in Real Madrid’s stadium, the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu. The demo also allows you to upload videos to EA Sports Football World. If you go to Facebook and play FIFA Superstars and complete achievements there, you’ll be able to access Arsenal and their Emirates Stadium in the demo.

The PES 2011 demo lets you play a single offline match with up to four clubs: Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Chivas Guadalajara and Internacional. There’s also a video showing off what the game has to offer. FIFA 11 will be released on October 1st, with PES 2011 following a week later on October 8th.

Konami has confirmed that a demo for PES 2011 will be released on the PC and PS3 on 15th September. PlayStation Plus subscribers will be able to pick up the demo from 8th September. It’s not currently known when the 360 demo will be released yet, but we’ll let you know when Konami figures it out. Regardless, the demo allows you to take on a friend on the same console/PC or the AI as Barcelona, Bayern, Chivas Guadalajara or Internacional. PES 2011 will be released on 8th October.

Konami has announced that Castlevania: Lords of Shadow will be released on 5th October in the US and on 8th October in the UK on the PC, PS3 and 360. The game follows Gabriel Belmont, who has to rescue his wife from limbo. Hideo Kojima, whom has led development on the Metal Gear Solid franchise, has also had an overseer role on Lords of Shadow.

Konami Europe has decided that it will publish the PS3 port of No More Heroes: Heroes’ Paradise. They haven’t picked up the 360 version, but they have added PlayStation Move support to the game. Both of the previous Wii No More Heroes games were published by Rising Star Games in Europe.

We’re not sure if the 360 version will ever get released over here or in the US, or whether the US will get the PS3 release. We’ll let you know if they get announced somewhere along the line. Regardless, Japanese gamers can already play the game on the Wii, PS3 and the 360.

Konami has announced that DanceDanceRevolution will support the PlayStation Move on the PS3. The game will have 25 new songs by Konami’s in-house artists and 25 licensed tracks.

“For the first time in the history of the franchise, DanceDanceRevolution PS3 will feature a truly interactive dance experience via PlayStation Move as it challenges players to use both their hands and feet simultaneously – providing the most rhythmic and realistic dancing experience yet on PlayStation 3!” Konami said in a press release.

“Additionally, compatibility with the PlayStation EYE allows players to take pictures of their room and add dance club components to transport their home into a virtual club.”
