Just like Japan, in the US there’ll be a 20MB download limit attached to the 3G version of the PlayStation Vita, Sony announced yesterday.

The limit of course only applies to data being downloaded over a 3G network; if you’re downloading via wi-fi, on either the 3G or wi-fi-only models of the Vita, you can grab bits and bytes to your heart’s content.

Interestingly, Sony explains that the limit has nothing to do with the hardware of the Vita. It’s instead a limitation on AT&T’s part, the Vita’s exclusive mobile carrier not allowing 3G downloads any bigger than 20MB on any handheld devices on its network.

Nintendo has unveiled some sales data for their 2010 games, with Donkey Kong Country Returns being a stand out surprise in the mix. The game managed to achieve a high 4.21 million global sales. Kirby’s Epic Yarn managed to get 1.38 million sales in Japan and the US so far, which is pretty good considering is yet to be released in Europe. Super Mario Galaxy 2 has sold 6.15 million since its summer 2010 release too. Those totals are only up to 31st December 2010 by the way.

Pokémon Black and White has sold 5.32 million so far, with 5.26 million of those in Japan alone from the game’s release in mid-September. The games will be hitting the US and Europe within the next few months. Also, Wii Party has managed to get 5.07 worldwide sales and Art Academy has amassed 1.52 million sales. New Super Mario Bros. also managed to sell 3.73 million copies on the DS from April to December, with the Wii version shifting 6.58 million copies in the same period.

Mario Kart DS also did well, securing 2.8 million sales with the Wii version getting 3.95 million sold. Wii Fit Plus flogged an insane 5.07 million units with 4.5 million Wii balance boards getting sold in those nine months. The global total of the balance boards has reached 34 million. All of this in short means Nintendo is making money hand over fist from the DS and Wii.

Nintendo has announced a new Wii Kirby game that looks like the previously unreleased Kirby Adventure for the GameCube. It’s a 2D classic side-scroller and we can confirm that despite our banner up there it has no yarn whatsoever, as opposed to Kirby’s Epic Yarn which had some of the best yarn we have ever experienced in a videogame. Super Smash Bros. developer HAL Laboratories is handling development duties and a “2011” Japanese release date has been slapped on it. A small video is available on Nintendo’s Japanese website here.

Nintendo has announced the Japanese launch line-up for the 3DS. Here is the line-up and pricing:

* Battle of the Giants: Dinosaurs 3D (¥5,040)

* Winning Eleven Soccer 3D (¥5,800)

The handheld will be released in Japan on 26th February for ¥25,000, which is about £193/$300 give or take some change. There is more bad news too: the 3DS will take three and a half hours to fully charge, and that will only last 3-5 hours during 3DS games and 5-8 hours playing regular DS titles. Brightness and the 3D slider will impact battery life. Regardless, it’s quite humorous to see Ridge Racer making launch. The series has been at the launch of quite a few recent consoles and handhelds. It might now be seen as a meme of sorts.

Kinect games didn’t do well either. DanceEvolution was the highest selling game for the peripheral, and that only made 6000 sales. In the Japanese charts, that places it as the 24th most sold game. Kinect Sports hit 45th and Crossboard 7, New Brain Training and Sonic Free Riders failed to hit the top 50.

We’ll, those guys over in the East continue to get more and more awesome stuff that us over here will never see stateside. Nintendo announced today that with Super Mario Bros anniversary this month, they will be releasing a special edition Nintendo Wii console to celebrate. Super Mario Bros turned 25 years old this month.

This Wii Special Anniversary Edition will be a completely Red Nintendo Wii console and controller. On the inside, Nintendo is pre-loading Super Mario Bros in the system. However, the other difference is in the design elements. A screenshot showed bricks being designed with the number “25″ on them, and its unknown if this is the only change. Also a new addition to the console is the inclusion of Wii Motion Plus. The new controller that will be integrated with Wii Motion Plus will replace the standard Wii Remote. Check out what the console looks like below…

SEGA has today sent word that the Super Monkey Ball series will be returning exclusively to the Nintendo 3DS in 2011. The game is currently in development over at SEGA Studio Japan. As you would expect, AiAi, MeeMee, GonGon and Baby are once again the playable characters.

A few of the old-school modes will also be returning: single-player puzzle levels, Monkey Race and Monkey Fight. Players will be able to play the last two via wireless connection with up to three other gamers. Apparently, you will also be able to control the game with either the 3DS’ motion sensor or the Slide Pad.

“The moment I saw the features of the Nintendo 3DS, I could not help thinking how perfectly Super Monkey Ball would work on this new hardware. I could quickly picture myself holding the Nintendo 3DS using the motion sensor and playing Super Monkey Ball” commented Toshiro Nagoshi, creator and developer of the Super Monkey Ball franchise. “The simple gameplay allows players to enjoy the 3D graphics to the fullest and now that we have brought this vision to life…bingo! We have our all-time favourite Super Monkey Ball experience with the new excitement of the Nintendo 3DS!”
