Sony has confirmed that they will be cutting off PSN access to gamers that have hacked their PS3s. What’s more, users will be blocked from Sony’s new Qriocity music service: the same service that Sony is moving all their iTunes content to. Here’s Sony’s official statement on those pesky hackers:

Sony has decided to come out all guns blazing after the PS3 cracked under the strain of hackers gaining access to the system’s security keys. It appears the company can’t just “patch” the problem, like they said the other week and they seem to instead want to apply some pressure on the core groups at the centre of the console’s hacking. The custom firmware adds an “Install PKG” option in the XMB. The new firmware doesn’t allow   Read More ...

If you buy new games with this firmware included, you have to install it or you won’t   Read More ...

Sony has released a new ‘mandatory’ firmware update for the PlayStation 3. Entitled “3.42”, the update adds “additional security features” according to Sony. If gamers don’t update, they will not be able to access the PlayStation Network unless they play around with a proxy server bypass (and that will only last until Sony clamps down on it again). Homebrew/backup fans across the internet have confirmed that the patch currently stops   Read More ...
