Sorry for another Valve-related news story but the gaming leviathan has just sent this new Portal 2 trailer over and we thought we would share. Valve has today released a Steam Client update that introduces the SILK voice codec. That’s the same codec developed and used by Skype. SILK is supposed to provide a “significant improvement to Steam’s voice chat quality”, according to the press release. Steam voice chat is available for both one-on-one and group chats. With Ubisoft deciding to eliminate paper manuals in their recent releases including Assassins Creed Brotherhood, EA Sports has chosen to make the same decision and get rid of them too. Future releases, including Fight Night Champion, will include an in-game digital manual instead.  With already a couple of publishers in line, it wouldn’t be a surprise if we saw more publishers following the lead. The summer release drought has been a permanent fixture in the gaming industry. However, this year there’s been a different drought: a Spring one. The only notable releases over the past few months have been overly expensive map packs, which were normally free back in my day.
